682 44" deck problem
I know its winter time but just planning ahead. On my red 682 on the 44" mower deck runs great. After mowing for about 10-15 minutes the belt starts to shred. I am thinkin its a pulley or spindle heating up. But just wandering if anyone else could give more insite. Thanks

Check to see that your spindles are free to turn, with no appreciable play or noise.
Also check to see if the mule drive pulleys have good bearings and are not bent or @ a odd angle. also use the factory belt, a "will fit" or hardware or tractor supply belt will shred itself in short order. also look for anything that it may be hitting/rubbing on. I'm sure others will have suggestions also. |
There is a little "L" shaped belt guard that's bolted to the top of the deck, check to see if that is bent and rubbing also.
What belt are you using?? |
Belt
I am using a blue belt from tractor supply

I tried one of their Kevlar blue belts my 782 /50" deck, hoping I could get by till I got the correct belt.
No problem for at least 2 hours, then it looked like a limp rope and frayed @ the edges, eventually it turned over in the pulleys. I took it back and got my money back from TSC! Those type of belts are not for lawn/garden or other applications where they run around idlers or 1/4 turns. They are for a simple application like a furnace blower or other inline purposes. Get the factory belt and they will hold up, end of story. If you must go with a non factory length because of some modifications, a Goodyear insta-power is long lived and designed for just that application. I personally have one going on 250 hours with no wear showing. There are other members here who will attest to the same results trying to run a poor quality belt. |
