1641 questions
 

Hello all,
First time around here and I have tons of questions because I know nothing about tractors or PTO's or any of it. Anyway, I moved to the country a year ago and I ended up buying a 1641 from a fellow in my church to mow with. It mows well, although I can't keep it near top speed without my hand constantly holding the shifter forward. Anyway, after trolling the forums I realize they can do so much more (well, I don't know about the 1641, but lawn/garden tractors in general). Recently while visiting family in CT, a friend offered me a snow blade, a three point hitch and a set of rear tires (AG tires maybe, they're not turf but much more aggressive). The problem with all of this is that they were for his John Deere. My question is, are these parts adaptable for a Cub? I know you may need more info, but I first wanted to know the feasibility of it. The tires I'm sure are fine if they are the right size. But the 3 point hitch is not mounted onto a plate, which seems to be what mine needs. Also the snow blade is hydraulic, but his JD has two Hydraulic ports on the front, where as mine has one hydraulic cable. Really I believe a snowblower would be a better attachment, since the snow piles up here in Central New York.

I have lots of other questions, but there not necessarily attachment questions, so I will have to post them in other forums. One other quick gardening question, can I use aftermarket tow behind accessories with this, such as diskers or plows that people use with ATV's? Thanks for any help and I am trying to read as much as I can before I ask questions already asked.

JD stuff seems to be worth its weight in gold, so I'd sell that and buy the correct stuff for your 1641. You could use those tow-behind attachments, but if you get the correct 3-point hitch you can use those attachments instead.

cnysabo welcome from another Central N.Y.er. As Matt said unless the jd stuff was free I would not mess with it. You will end up with a cobbled up mess. Probably a bigger pain in the butt than it's worth. As far as the hose on the front of your 1641 that is not a hydraulic hose it is a crankcase oil drain hose. By the way where in central NY are you from. Cortland NY here.

Thanks for both replies to my question. Perhaps I can just simply sell/trade the JD attachments for Cadet attachments. When I got the tractor I also received the owner's manual and an attachment manual. But they were from the 90's when the tractor was built. Since then are these attachments obsoleted? If so are there any cross reference literature for other attachments that can be used or do I just wait until I come across a used attachment that was made for the 1641? It seems like an awful narrow window if only the tractor age and attachment age must pretty much always line up. And unfortunately, I am not a welder so I can't make "things work" if I find something close enough. Hope the remedy the inability to weld someday... Thanks again for the replies. I do have a couple other questions on performance which I will now go and post on the main forum.

By the way, I live half way between Moravia and Auburn (Scipio). My Inlaws live in Cortland.

There are many, many used attachments around that will fit your tractor. Go here, put in '1641' and then click 'Attachments' too see what's available.

I checked out the link and see there is quite a bit. I'll also continue to keep my eye out for local used stuff and I know I will keep learning as I go along here.

I'm with Matt, sell the JD stuff and outfit your Cub. That's what I did. Weekend freedom machines is a good JD forum. Listed attachments there seem to sell fairly quickly.
