To replace or not????
 

My steering column is leaking a little bit of hydro fluid from here.When I checked the mounting bolts they were loose.Could that be the reason for the leak? Should there even be hydro fluid in the steering column housing?I am hoping the problem is just loose bolts as this is a pricey item to have to replace.I think the engine was out of alignment or a bent drive shaft,either way Im gonna replace the drive shaft.Finally I am installing a new wiring harness and everything goes(I think) where it should except I dont know where these two wires hook up.Maybe there is a missing switch somewhere.They dont go to the brake switch as those are already located and the ones in the pic are'nt long enough to reach it.Any help is appreciated!!!Sorry for the column picture being sideways.

What model tractor is this?

It is a 2072 Matt.I tried to down load a wiring diagram from some of the prior post but my computer wont download for some reason.I dont think it is compatable with the download program or something as my computer is like a 1995 model.

Maybe this is a better pic of the column but it is before I got the grime off of it.

There should not be fluid in the column tube. The seal is leaking and it's time for a rebuild. The kit is available from CC but cheaper through JD and a few others, as other brands used the same steering sector. The procedure is in the service manual, which you'll need.

Maybe the extra wiring is for the optional rear pto?

Well I got lucky (I Think) and answered this one for myself.The best I can figure is these two wires are for an in line fuse.The one on the left test positive continuity at the solenoid and the one on the right test positive continuity at the volt meter,and according to the wiring diagram there should be a fuse between these two wires.So I installed an inline fuse between these two but I wont know for sure till I hook up the battery but I have alot more work to do before I do that.Besides the engine is sitting on the work bench and waiting on new ignition switch.Nothing ventured,nothing gained!!!!
