Idler pully question:
Will the mower idler pulleys {mule drive?} from my 3-spindle 38" mower run a drive belt to a #1 IH tiller? The tractor is a 71, with serial# 184004. From the Louisville Works, Cub Cadet monthly Serial Number Report, my tractor was made in Jan. of '67. I don't think I do need Idler pulley Completing Package #490 555 R91. I did not know there was a 2-spindle mower. The part in reference to serial #65458 and numbers higher have me a little confused. Thanks for all your help, John

The first 70/100 was serial number 65458. The Idler pulley Completing Package #490 555 R91 was needed for Cubs that did not have a front drive/mule drive needed the above package. There was package that replaced the tension spring and spacer if you had a mower deck for your Cub.
This is kinda ironic....I'm doing a seminar on Cub Cadet attachments this coming weekend. I learned a few things while researching this. The 2 spindle mower was used on Orginals and 70's. The blades needed to be timed so they didn't hit each other. |
Holy moly.
I know the mule drive for a 71 has a adjustment for the belt tension on it for a mower deck.I do believe the adapting package has the same adjusting bolt for the other pulley. You would remove the mower undercarriage and run your belt to the tiller. You can also put on a later QA mule drive which will bolt on the 71,minus the undercarriage for the deck and use the adapting package which is basically removing the spring and replacing it with a adjusting rod. Please correct me if I am missing something.Yes there was also an adapting package to run a timed deck on a 70 only and they are hard to find. |
Thank you very much for the needed information! I do have a adjusting rod on the Qa idler pully. I dont believe I seen a 70/100 that used a left-over 2 spindel Original mower deck anywhere, I presume. Now I can further ahead on making sence of what I read!
