582 special

I just got this early 1981 582 special with 2b tiller.

Im new to the cubs so is there anything I should look for or check other than the usual (oil change, grease, tuneup) stuff? It runs great and everything works and with 310 hours on the clock im sure it has plenty of life left in it.

Im going to buy a battery and a new set of tru power tires for the rear. It has the original 23-10.5-12 turf tires now. It will only be used for tilling so could I go up to the 26-12-12 tru powers or should I stay with the 23-10.5-12's?

Sweet deal. Nothing better than a freebie. With a tiller no less. BOOYAH:IH Trusted Hand:

If you are using it for tilling, I would stick with the tires you currently have on it. There's no need for lug tires...all the tractor is doing is preventing the tractor from being pushed forward by the tiller.

Go buy a lottery ticket, quick. Looks like it will give lots of service.

I agree but the tires are shot so i need to buy tires anyway and the lug tires look cool

first that thing needs a bath. Its in much better shape then the pictures show. The paint is pretty worn but its all straight and complete just covered in bird crap and dirt. The plan is when my son gets older we will restore it together as a father / son project.

In that case, stick with the current size...the 26" rears will not fit without raising the fenders, and you'll probably lose tilling depth, too.

Great looking 582! Great price too! I have no clue why they would have put a 2X6 on the back cover of the tiller. Only thing I can think of is they tried backing up while tilling and it was bending the cover.:bigthink: It's missing the belt pulley cover but that's pretty common.

Thanks for the pics! I enjoyed them.:beerchug:

The board adds just enough weight to do a better job of leveling the tilled soil, and chances are more than good, that the hour meter has rolled over only once, judging from the wear of the paint in the normal areas.
nice find, you will enjoy her.
