Tiller Gearbox, lower seal
Hey all,
This past weekend I changed the oil in the tiller PTO gearbox on the back of my 1450 before I put the tiller back on. While cleaning up everything, I noticed the seal is out on the underside of the gearbox, above the pulley that is driven by the Engine PTO. How hard is it to change this seal? It isn't leaking badly, but is in need of repair. Also, can I take the pulley from my snow thrower and put it on the tiller drive? Mine has a pulley for a 782 rather than a 1450, while my snow thrower has the pulley for the 1450. It seems there is more to the pulley that is on the gearbox that what is on the tiller. Thanks! |
That will not work...the hub on the tiller gearbox pulley is significantly larger than the one on the snowthrower.

As far as replacing the seal, its fairly easy. There are external snap rings and the shaft will come out, drive out the bearings and seal and re- install. I've got mine apart right now waiting on a new output shaft.
