If it is a bad seal, it's not a big deal to change. You remove the pto and then screw a drywall screw into the seal itself and pull it out with a pair of pliers and then put a new one in. It's a common problem. You probably have a 1/4" or more of clearance behind the seal for the screw to protrude through it.
