I had the same issue on mine.
There is about a QUART, yea a quart of sludge waiting for you when you finally pull the axle housings off!!
I could not believe draining the transmission left so much behind!
Pull out the 9/16" wrench and take out the C-clips, you will be amazed.
BUT, it fixes the issue.
