Inside the axle tube is a "pocket" area. My QL 1000 was FULL if sediment.

The axle housing acted like the gas tank settling bowl, collected the gook.

Some transmissions have more sediment than others. I opened up a 108 last week that looks original and does not even need an oil change.

So it depends on something, I don't know why some are dirty, some are clean.
