Thanks for the input everyone. I'll check on some of those things this weekend if I get a chance. It's in the basement for the winter, but I can still check that stuff.

I doubt it's a fluid level issue, as it has been this way since I bought it, and the fluid has been checked routinely.

I do think that new fluid and filter would help. For all the more travel that the hyrdo lever allows in reverse, if I pushed the lever forward the same amount the tractor doesn't do much either. I have to push the lever forward a fair amount to get reasonable speed for mowing.

But the linkage, that may be the key. When i brought it home the linkage was loose. This made for a few scary trips through the steep back yard. I tightened the lever, but maybe it wasn't centered where it should have been.

Any other suggestions?
