Two or three 42lbs suitcase weights would do you good for this project!
If you can i would cut and add steel to the arms on the bracket to move it forward enough to clear the frame. That way you wont have to bend it and it will still use the QA on the frame. The studs that lock into the QA will need to be cut and moved back to lock in position. All in all you can have this modified in no time and still have the full function you wanted too!
At the same time you could also decide to make it a dual purpose project and make the bracket a bumper too but this is just a thought only. Looks like your off to a good start and looking forward to progress updates!
