Today I removed the CV joint for the steering on the 2284 to clean out the original grease and repack it with fresh grease. This is a fairly simple job anytime the engine is out of the tractor. Remove the battery tray, steering wheel, boot over the steering column, the snap ring that keeps the bronze bushing from sliding down the column and the bolt through the bottom of the CV joint. The CV joint should now slide up off of the steering valve or steering box. The joint has 4 allen head blots holding it together, remove these and the joint will come apart. Clean the old grease out, repack and reassemble in the reverse order. Also fixed the plug to the ignition switch while I was in the area. The battery tray will get the rust cleaned off and some new paint. Also replaced the crossover fuel line at the top rear of the fuel tank. The ignition switch is pretty nasty so I’m going to replace that also while it’s easy to get at.
