Default 982 Running Project Update

My buddy gave me an M18S from an old 1806 and with Roland’s help with the wiring diagram and many hours of plugging away at it, I finally took it for a few laps around the yard yesterday.
I had also took one of the heads off just to see what it looked like and it needs a good cleaning…soon as the carbon is built up pretty good. After doing some checking, I am going to try some Permatex gasket remover instead of doing the “water injection” method. Will post before and after pics when I do this. Did this on another cub I had many years ago and it made a huge difference in how well it ran.
Some things that I found were the fuel pump was bad so that slowed me down. I had originally took the carburetor off to clean out all of the gunk that may have been sitting in there for a couple of years and when the tractor would not run, I immediately thought that it was something that I had done to the carb so I took it off and checked and rechecked everything………2 times!!! Then I thought that I should take the pump off and at least look at it and when I took the 4 little screws out…..one of the little diaphragms fell out and I could see wear marks where it had been getting beat around in there. So I found another whole motor on Craigie’s list so I went and picked it up and took the fuel pump out of it and THAT WAS IT!!..Started right up and ran just fine.
I still have issues with the ammeter that I will work out this week. I did check the regulator and it is fine. The stator measures just fine. Output at the battery when it is at high idle is about 12.8 volts…I am suspecting that I could have a magnet issue that was referred to earlier…..but I really hope not. I have a hard time picking up that heavy motor and setting it back down in there…IT IS HEAVY…as there is never anyone around when you are doing this stuff.
