I am rebuilding my 1641 that has been sitting for 7 years in the weather. I'm putting it back together now. While repainting the frame, I sprayed some over the fins of the hydro pump. Now I think this may cause it overheat.

Should I sandblast the paint off the fins or is it okay to leave it alone? Any suggestions?

Also I know it was not supposed to be towed but when it broke down 7 years ago I didn't know anything else to do. It may be damaged. I have it on a stand and the forward and reverse seems to work but is there anything I need to the transmission or pump before I try to use it?
