Default Draining the rear end fluid

I was doing some maintenance on my 1450 yesterday. I was much surprised when I bought a new Hydro Filter and rear end cover gasket and the cost of each.

Anyway, while cleaning up the rear end, I got to thinking.

Has anyone ever entertained the idea of drilling a hole in the lowest portion of the casting and taping it for a 1/2" MPT plug, like what is used in the rear cover. Thus, draining the fluid would seem a bit easier. I fully realize the benefits of pulling the rear cover but it seems that it don't have to be done every time.
