You could improve your design by adding a cheap retractable power cord like they use on shop lights, that would be easier than having to worry about the cord getting snagged on stuff. Also, why not just use a cigar light plug and socket, would look a lot neater than the household outlet and plug (of course that would eliminate the "redneck engineering" that went into your project...LOL)!!!!
