Well after fighting with the rain yesterday I decided to clean a spot in the garage and finish it today, got the head back together and replaced points, cleaned and reset carb, started it up and and it sounds great so far. Found out my exhaust is shot though.
Anyway those links you put up Matt were invaluable, really made things much simpler for me. When I got the head off, the whole exhaust side was black over the head gasket, never would have thought to check that. Timing was retarded quite a bit, but the carb seemed to be pretty close to what it should have been but just a little on the lean side I think. Now im just waiting for my hydro fan and rag joint.
