The 2a was the width of the 1a with both extensions on it. The 1a was 26 inches? wide, and could come with 2 6" extensions. the 2a just came stock at 38" I beleive. The 2B just came with a different gearbox to work with the X82 series, as they used a 5/8 drive belt in stead of a 1/2 like everything else.
No tiller was designed to ever have oil in it, the lube on the chain was all that was needed. dirt would find its way in somehow, and the oil would only help to spread it around. if you have the tiller apart, Put in O-Ring chain, and you'll be good for 40 years
