I used to use electric fence to keep the deer out. I'm told aluminum foil smeared with peanut butter and wrapped on the fence will train them.
The electric fence worked until we got chickens. The birds were worse than the deer! I bought some bamboo poles and deer netting. The bamboo I wired to the steel t-posts, and then wired the fence to the bamboo. 7' deer netting keeps out everything except meadow voles.
