Everything is pinned together & the end of the driveshaft is all the way thru the driver pilot bushing, but hasn't bottomed out on the crankshaft nut (which it shouldn't). There's a solid 1/32" to maybe a 1/16" between the clutch driver & the front clutch plate hub that's pinned to the driveshaft, and a 1/16" between the top of the clutch driver pin bosses and the front clutch plate. It looks that if the driveshaft assembly is moved forward anymore that the driver & front plate hub will make contact or the driver pin bosses will hit the O.D. of the front clutch plate. Seems like that stuff is as close to the motor as it should be.
Starting to think my transmission coupler may be the culprit. I'm currently using a Midwest Super Cub SST unit who's spiral pin holes are 1" on-center apart from each other. I never had a stock coupler to compare to (the tractor had a piece of pipe made into a coupler) but maybe my MSC piece is too long. Judging from my stash of disassembly pictures & the parts that are re-assembled now, there could be a 3/8" to 1/2" space between the end of the driveshaft and the end of the reduction drive gear stub in the transmission.
So that leads me to the question, what are the dimensions on a standard transmission coupler? What is the spacing of the sprial pin holes? Does any of this make sense?
