2/3rds startup throttle after a 30-second hold on the glow plugs is the sweet spot for my machine. You may want try that out. The important thing is to cut the throttle back as soon as possible so she doesn't start up on high revs too long. Matt has some great tips there. I always get mine fired up and then put on the deck / attach the lawn sweeper / get a Pepsi...you get the point. Last, don't run it out of fuel!!
