It is not a stator.It is a magneto for clarification purposes. Yes they do crack but before you pull the flywheel, put a new set of points,gap them to .020 put a new condenser on it and give it a few pulls while holding the end of the spark plug wire in your hand and see what happens.
Unless you have a spark tester....
