I can't think of any way the coil could go bad and provide spark to one cylinder and not the other. I'd take a compression tester and make sure it doesn't have a broken rod. That's the first thing that comes to mind when the owner says it runs on one cylinder. Yeah, he claims it's a spark issue, but I wouldn't believe that unless you can prove it. I've been told all kinds of lies by people that wanted to sell a tractor to me.

Unless somebody's been swapping parts around, that's a 682. There is no manual lift 782...that's a 682.

Make sure the driveshaft couplers aren't worn and wobbly, as that's a fair amount of money to fix.
