I recently swapped a ch18 into my 582 I was also looking for the information on what separates the 18 hp, 20 hp and 22 hp commands. from what I found doing research online (I dont know for sure if this is factual information) the 18 hp has a pin that screws out of the side of the carb to let the throttle arm and butterfly open to full wide open throttle which lets the carb flow better and in turn make more power this is the difference between the 18 hp and the 20 hp command engines so I was told. I currently have 3 ch18s in my possesion and they all have this pin except for the one in my 582 which I removed when I did the swap. I was told the difference between the 20 hp and the 22 hp is the ignition advance module and that also there were some 22 commands with a slightly larger bore but not sure if they also had the advance module too or not. I like the command engine they seem to run good, make decent power and they also have a good exhaust sound. the one thing I noticed on my ch18 is that ther are no main bearings on the crankshaft which to me kind of makes this a throw away engine after the case is worn out.
