I drilled it while the pump was together in my drill press. The fixture that I made to work on the pump held it nice and steady. Then I just tapped it by hand. Did all this before it took the pump apart to overhaul it. The shaft is case hardened so you have to go easy drilling it at first and you need a good drill bit and cutting oil.
