Got 2072 out of storage a couple weekends ago and slowly weve been tuning it up. We took the carb off and cleaned it but when we re installed it the motor fired up fine and then with anything more then 1/3 throttle it ran away like the governor was not working. I then read that since we disconnected the linkage the governor cross shaft would need to be reset in the clamp on the cross shaft.
Here lies the problem I put pliers and turned counter clockwise like the manuals say on the cross shaft but i do not get any resistance from it. It moves about a 3/4 turn either way but there is no resistance. I can however feel it connecting at either end of the turn inside with something, it doesn't just spin away freely. There is also some vertical movement in the shaft. We also played with the throttle linkage to no avail. I am tearing my hair out

because when we parked the machine in storage it worked fine and now seeing as it might be an internal problem it looks like the whole motor needs to be torn down possibly.
Just curious if anyone here might have some other hints. THANK YOU!!
