Keep an eye out for other brand tractors with the M18 or Command engines in them , ALOT of them are out there.
I wouldn't give up on the Briggs , i put an 18HP Opposed Briggs out of a low hr Craftsman in a Cub and that engine is beast and has been very reliable.
