I have tried to get gas pumps and coke machines painted for years at three different body shops. I would do all the prep work and have them shoot the paint. Inflated quotes, Crazy turn times etc. etc.
Had a coke machine sit ready for paint at the body shop for a entire year. I got tired of ,"Your next in line." Went and picked it up and now it sits in my shop wanting.
The last guy quoted me $8,000 for two gas pumps and I supplied all the paint and had them sand blasted down. I asked him if he was kidding. He said no.
I believe that for the body shops here in central MN if it is not some sort of insurance job or a wide open check book restoration they will not give the small projects the time of day.
I have resorted to just doing my own work and just accept the fact that I get runs in the paint. Nothing perfect, but good enough for me.
