I actually removed the arm. The spring and its bolt stayed put. I was able to break the bolt under the deck and take the arm off. It was necessary as the old arm and shaft through the pulley were one piece. Mine sheared off.

The new shaft was too long for the new arm unless I left the belt shield off or modified it. I ended up using the old shaft and did a test mow today and it worked great. It was.......Fun!

On another note, my 44 deck gives an inferior cut to my 50. 44 has new blades and parts. The 50 probably hasnt been touched in 30+ years. Amazing.
