Congratulations on your wonderful find and welcome to the forum! What a cub to start with. You should be able to find a replacement axle for a reasonable price and hopefully get it fired up and alive once more. Keep us posted on your progress.

Lew stands correct, the best bet is to have the axel replaced. Having someone at a weld shop weld that back together, makes the axel a dime a dozen, which they are.
