they stick out about an inch in the front of the little hanger loops.
there is actually grooves in the front of the bracket from the pulley rubbing it from the belt being too loose.
looking at partstree schematics it almost looks like the hanger brackets are for the newer deck. but the mule drive has the smaller 4" pulleys of the early setup. the later ones show to have 5 1/4 pulleys. the deck is about an inch from the rear tires so it can't really go back any further.
I just went to tractor supply and the next smallest belt they was a 90, and they were out of it. still waiting on the 92 I ordered from the parts store.
