I don't have any experience with it, but the fan should go on such that when the driveshaft spins, it will blow air towards the back of the tractor over the hydralic pump.

Turn the engine over by hand to make sure you know which way the driveshaft is suppose to turn.

Got this picture from an ebay auction for a 1650 driveshaft. It should give you another opinion on which way the fan is pointed. From other fleabay auctions, it looks the narrow frame, and 682/782 driveshaft fans point the same way.

Anybody else have something more definite?
