You won't be able to accurately check compression on that engine. It has an automatic compression release (ACR).

Any help to what? Clean the carb?

Disassemble it, make sure the jet in the center where the bolt for the fuel bowl goes is clear of debris. Blow out all passages with compressed air. Buy a carb kit. Reassemble. Drain fuel tank. Flush with new gas. Clean the sediment bowl. Replace the fuel lines if it has been sitting for more than a year.
