Without a doubt, this tractor has been a challenge - for me.
I'm pretty good at fixing stuff, but really am a hack mechanic. Pulling the engine, on this IHCC and another one over the Winter and a host of other things I've encountered with these tractors has been both a chore, challenge and a learning experience.
Don't hate me - but for a lot of years, my go-to tractors have (and still are) Wheelhorse. For whatever reason, I have latched onto those, but told my Wife a few years ago, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with regard to IHCC and Simplicity - so a bought a few of both. It's been an enjoyable experience tinkering with the Cub Cadets.
Not sure I'm going to keep the 1650 or my 109 or my 126 - but I'm usually pretty wishy-washy on these things. I'm searching for the perfect IHCC to permanently keep in the fleet.
I like both hands on the steering wheel and with Wheelhorse or Cub Cadet, really don't care for hand lever hydro. My terrain, being hilly and trimming/turning requires constant attention to the hydro lever. Some smart guy with the Wheelhorse tractors figured out a foot control for them and I've converted them to foot control hydro and it's a dream! Really brings an old iron tractor into the 21st century. So that leaves me with gear drive IHCC's. I like my 126, but, again for my mowing needs, the 1st gear is a tad slow and 2nd gear is to fast, though I'm trying to get use to it without smashing into a fence post - LOL.
I am to understand the 128 has a little slower 2nd gear - which might be the ticket. Having worked on my 126 and the 1650 and 109, I can appreciate the wide frame vs narrow frame for serviceability and repair. So I"m thinking about trying a 128 next-up. Another thing that makes a 128 an interesting project is that I have a 14 hp engine I could drop into one and a 50 inch deck. I would think that would be a great mowing combo.
But I do like the looks of the 1650 and it seems to be a comfortable tractor to operate.
