I agree with the others, you don't NEED a fuel pump but the way I see it, for less than an hours time, a couple beers, and $40, you could replace it and never have to worry about it again. This is the one I put on my 682 because it had a bad fuel pump when I got it like yours does and I haven't had a problem with it since.
