J-Mech- not sure the bowl is running dry, it didn't even stumble, just stopped. It restarted immediately. It was strange. I did set both stops for the carb float according to the directions that came with it.

2nd question- had engine running, unscrewed filter, expected a HUGE mess and only got a little splash. I'm going to put a gauge on it tomorrow.

3rd- I think my meter has a tach setting, its a Cornwell (Electronic Specialties) ES-585. I'll try that.

4th- I did fill filter, but I'm still concerned. I ended up taking it off, flipping the adapter over and trying to run oil into the lines, then reinstalled the filter. Again I'll see tomorrow with a gauge.

5th- I ran it a little but since I'm worried about oil psi I gave up, but I'm positive it would start up if I tried it.

Thanks for the help, I just don't want to risk hurting the engine, and the sequence of events (the engine stopping dead) has me second guessing things. I'm going to run through the governor and carb adjustments tomorrow once I know I have oil psi.
