I would try to use the oversize bolt with it's head cut off as an insert in the housing. Someone with a lathe could drill and tap the the center of the oversize bolt for the correct thread (3/8-16 if I remember correctly). Then the insert could be installed with threadlocker and the proper bolt installed.
