New to this Board, not to CC. Any other California Cubs out there?
I grew up in Illinois on a CC 108 that my dad bought brand new in 1974. We had a neighbor that I used to do yard work for that had a 122 and 1000 that they bought brand new in 1965 and 1977. Around 200 she gave me the 1000 that I stored at my dad’s house. He used it as a backup for the 108.
Fast forward 13 years and I found myself living in Santa Cruz, CA. We sold our house of 11 years in town and moved up in the mountains above Santa Cruz to a house on 2 acres in Felton, CA last August. I had my 1000 and 44” mower deck shipped out along with some other things my parents stored for me. Sitting on the 1000 brought back so many memories. I am in the process of repairing the damage my ham-fisted younger brother did when my dad loaned him the tractor.
Last weekend I picked up a basket case 1450 that came with a 44” deck, a #2 tiller complete with gearbox and belts and a non-IH box scraper. It also had the 3 pt. and IH wheel weights. The tractor runs but it is very rough. It is mostly compete – the hard to find parts are there. The side covers are in excellent shape. I got the entire package for $350. The tiller is in excellent shape for its age so I feel I did alright on this deal. You don't see many Cub Cadets out here so I was glad to get it. I had to drive 2 1/2 hours one way for this deal.
I am gathering parts to repair the 1450 and get it ready for tilling. I plan to use the 1000 to mow the lawn. I want to tear the 1450 down and restore it. It sat outside for who knows how long and it looks like it. The 1000 is in better shape but could use a paint refresh too. I would like to restore them one at a time so I have one available for work.
I was pretty active with CC tractors about 10 years ago and at the time there was only one board that I knew of. I found that board, this board and one other. There seems to be more information available now than ever before. I want to keep my equipment running long enough for my 1 and 5 year old boys to experience growing up on a CC like I did.
I figured I would post this as in introduction. I tend to contribute when I join an organization and I have been lurking here for a week now. I learned so much reading this board an other sub boards. Thanks for everything!
I'll snap some pictures of my CC equipment this weekend and post them. Thanks again!
