one thing also to consider is the change in the intake opening and closing position. anyone who has spent time with a dial indicator and a degree wheel can understand the affects of 2 degrees of timing in how an engine runs. We often close up the exhaust lash in stockers to help with torque.
increasing the intake lash would also have and adverse affect on the split overlap at tdc. since its an opposed engine I would run the same lash on each side. loose lash can also hammer on the lifters and the cam. everything wears , the looser it is the more it wears . if you have it apart yet I'd replace the valve
