The steering's been getting harder on the 124, so yesterday I put it up in the front, tore down the front end, and the axle.
All the grease was dried up.
I modified the front pin for the axle when I had the engine out last....I put a 3/4" OD, 1/2" ID bronze bushing all the way through, then a shouldered 1/2" bolt with a Lock nut. The bolt goes in through the front, nut in the rear.
Makes things alot easier.
So, all greased up, and back together. Much better.
I'm going to be putting bearings on the spindles soon, top and bottom....but haven't had the time.
Oh, and I made a spring assist....did it WF style. Bolts to the deck lift arm. Then made a strong angle bracket and bolted it on the side of the seat support panel. No, long angle rod needed....put it low so to tighten it, I use a socket on an extension, under the 3pt lift arm.....Chain with a shackle to the arm, then a 12" heavy spring from the chain to a eye-bolt.
Woks nice....cost nothing.
