In the defense of the new tractor prices, I have already been checking on actual sale prices and got responses as low as $5200 out the door -- that's a GTX2100 with the fabricated 48" deck. That particular deck apparently lists for $900 by itself. That's still pretty expensive -- but not as bad as the $6400 that you figured up.
