Duncan: I've got two Originals, both with the IH 3-point lift, and haven't had to cut off anything yet. If the seat and seat spring are properly installed, you will not have to cut anything off. The bottom end of the seat spring will slide back and forth if the bolts are loosened. Wuz I you, I'd fix the seat mounting.
Having said that, the Spring Assist bracket does get right close to the curve of the seat spring but doesn't quite touch on both of mine
