More on Idler assembly
I finally got my 38a deck back on my 800, after removing blades & spindles over the winter.
At some time, some ahhhhhhh "mechanic" had greased the spindles with some of that cheapy yellowish-orange grease that did not mix well with the IH 251 Lithium grease. Took many hours to get the spindle bearings and spindle cup assemblies cleaned out.
Anyway, I test ran the mower, and it was still noisy...very noisy. I looked, and the flat bar on the deck belt idler assembly with the idler tension spring hooked to it has A LOT of vertical play....so much that when the deck is stopped, the idler pulley actually pushes the belt down on the discharge side spindle. Without the belt on, there is about 5/8" vertical slop.
Didn't notice that when I took the deck apart last winter, but I did wonder why the belt was frayed on the edges.
Has anyone run into this before, and know of any easy fix?
Thanks a bunch
Cubby Guy
