Well here she is. Sorry about the pics, they aren't the best. Anywho, got there about 4:30 and there she was, sitting in the yard; it just couldn't wait to come with me to its new home!
He turned the key, it fired right up. I checked it out, everything worked (even had good headlights/tail lights). Hopped on the ugly seat and took it for a spin. She moved good, no bad noises, steered easy but had a little slop, no huge deal, popped the throttle a couple times, no smoke or anything. Got off, handed him the money, loaded it up, and off we went. Stopped at the store on the way home and got some fresh oil and filter so I could get some easy wrench time in. Little did I know...
Got home and turned the key; nothing. Well duh, I knew it had a bad battery. Got another Cub out to jump it and all it would do is crank. Checked fuel, pretty low, so I added some gas. Still nothing. Replaced the fuel line because the filter looked iffy, still nothing. Poured a shot of gas and even later a shot of starting fluid down the carb, still nothing. At this point, I've been at it for about an hour checking this, tightening that, etc etc. Tired of messing with it, I backed up to the garage and pushed it off the truck (no easy task with a flat tire). So, I'll have to dig into it to see what it'll take to get it going.
The good: when the engine ran, it sounded good so it's got to be something simple or stupid I couldn't find in the dark. It's got some BIG tires on it. They are 12 Carlisle's, iirc. Doesn't matter, they're coming off so maybe I'll toss them up for sale. And with a wash, she should clean up alright. I'm thinking I'm going to get the rest of the decal on the hood off because that bugs the heck out of me. She's also "only" got 687 hours on the clock and the spark plugs looked good when I pulled them.
So, here we go; another 1811 works when I check it out but doesn't work when I get it home thread (for you guys that remember when I got my first one
