I saw an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" in which Robert's future mother-in-law did a mercy kill of a bird that did just that during their Thanksgiving episode......thank goodness that she wasn't there when that happened to the oriole.
I personally believe that we were given the gift of free will to be the caretakers of the world, to help it out and each other out, and your wife did just that.....KUDOS to your wife! Now go treat that wonderful lady to a night on the town.
