As one of the guys stated you can use it as an additive with the oil but not a substitute. You need to just use a good quality 30w and probably a 10w30 in the winter months. I have an oil can that I dedicated to MMO and I just shoot about 6 or 8 squirts in the fuel tank upon fill-up. I think about an ounce/gallon is the recommended amount so....
The backfiring is probably a timing issue. The best way to correct that would be timing it with an ohm meter. There are instructions in the library (I think). You can also try resetting the points and make sure they end up at .020. This may fix the problem but ohming is suppose to be the surest way.
