My son is 10. And my daughter is 8 and has an instinct for machinery.
I trust them both more right now at these ages, than I likely will when they are 16 or 18..... (especially the boys)
I was in a meeting once with the Development head of a large midwest manufacturer. They were always testing out new tractors/designs.
His comment was that there is no better stress test for a design than a 16 yr old male summer employee that is told to just go mow the grass. He seemed to feel it was a very good way to find out what will break.
