For the reasons above, and as I suggested earlier, I would run with no plate. You could be accused of attempting to title jump if you get caught. I'd rather take my chances explaining the issue to smokey with what paperwork I had than to get nailed for committing a blatant lie of a crime. Cops don't like being lied to.

On the other side.. If you have a RECENT bill of sale (I think Indiana gives you 30 days) you can run whatever plate you want that is appropriate for the vehicle in the name of getting the plate "transferred" at a later time. Bring the registration that belongs to the plate with you.
