That's not really true. When it comes to bearings, you get what you pay for. Bearings made now are actually really good, if not better. You just have to pay for them. Timken is #1 when it comes to bearings. A lot of the old bearings in IH's are Timken. BCA, National and SKF are all good too.

As far as seals, Timken, National, SKF (old Chicago Rawhide) are good seal companies.

I've never went wrong with Timken. But expect to get out your checkbook when buying them.
