which style piston do you have? they show 3 different pistons and how to measure them. the very early 10 hp pistons get measured at the location below the oil ring. later pistons get measured a 1/2 inch above the bottom of the skirt.
the side clearance is the difference between the piston size and the bore size. a quick check with a set of long feeler gauges puts ones mind to rest and will catch an error of a wrong size piston. it should be the same all the way down the bore
